Volunteers

Jeffrey Musyt is also 22 years old.  He is a native of Olyphant, PA and a May 2009 graduate of the University of Scranton.  He majored in Neuroscience and minored in math and philosophy.  Throughout his college career, Jeff was a peer advisor/tutor and was involved in the Scranton Neuroscience Society, Alpha Sigma Nu (Jesuit Honor Society) and was Editor of Esprit, the University’s literary magazine.  He has traveled to Europe, the Philippines and has volunteered in service trips to New Orleans.  Jeff will be serving as an Assistant to the Core Members of L’Arche in Syracuse. “Quotes like ‘to whom much is given, much is expected’ do not capture the reasons why I want to volunteer.  They all seem inadequate because they imply a sense of obligation and not a need for selflessness.  While there is a duty to care for the poor, sick and suffering, these obligations belong to social justice.  Volunteering, however, is rooted in caring and compassion.  I want to volunteer not to just give back to the less fortunate but to share love.  Based on these feelings I never had to question if I wanted to volunteer.  The only undecided question was where to volunteer...I feel that FrancisCorps will provide me with an opportunity to grow both intellectually and spiritually.”
