Caregiver at Francis House
Where will I serve? A hospice home on the Northside of Syracuse, a few doors down from the volunteer house.
Who will I serve? Individuals with terminal illnesses with a prognosis of six months or less to live and their families.
What will I do? As a caregiver, you will help with the everyday physical needs of the residents at Francis House, and spend time with and get to know the residents and their family members. Francis House surrounds people who are dying with unconditional love on their journey home as they provide end-of-life care in a home-like setting. You will provide a loving presence for the residents and make sure they are cared for as Jesus would care for them.
What will my day look like?
- Get reports from the overnight caregivers about the residents and read the updated report log
- Check on the residents to start the day
- Help residents get changed or ready for the day if they want to get up
- Help residents use the restroom if needed or help position resident
- Help residents shower or give a bed bath if needed that day by changing bed sheets and clothes
- Take resident’s breakfast and lunch orders, bring meals when ready, and help with eating
- Daily cleaning and sanitizing
- Make sure doors are locked and all supplies are stocked for the day
- Help position residents and take care of any needs they may have
- Log actions throughout the day and write the final report at the end of the day
- Give final report about the residents to the next shift
What gifts and talents will I bring and grow in? Compassion, acceptance, respect, and dignity. Able to work well in a collaborative setting, be detail-oriented and flexible.
