Refugee Employment Specialist at Catholic Charities Refugee Services
Where will I serve? The Northside CYO building is located three blocks down the road from Assumption Church on the Northside of Syracuse.
Who will I serve? Newly arrived refugees.
What will I do? Assist refugees by providing ongoing support to address barriers to employment upon their arrival to the United States.
What will my day look like?
- Build relationships with and welcome refugees and their families.
- Maintain weekly contact with refugees by understanding their situation through mental and social factors to determine their capabilities.
- Conduct needs assessments and identify resources to enhance refugee client’s interpersonal insight and professional development.
- Monitor clients’ progress.
- Address barriers to employment as necessary.
- Assist in resume preparation, interview skills, job searches, employment support, and job development.
- Assist refugees in obtaining vital documentation including employment paper work and driver’s licenses, which includes trips to the DMV.
- Refer clients to community resources and other organizations.
- Network with community service providers.
- Complete necessary reporting forms for government agencies and funding sources.
- Maintain appropriate communication with job developers and other funding sources.
